Hi Twinutero,
I have done the prenatal screening (ultrasound & blood test) at 13 weeks and my obgyn called and said the test results came back positive for down syndrome. I am currently pregnant with a singleton however the pregnancy started with fraternal twins, which we discovered from the ultrasound. I have been searching on the web to see if there is any mention of these tests possibly being false positive because of the other twin and the affects that the loss of one of the twins could have on the test results of the surviving one. Do you have any information or can you direct me to a source where i can find out. I have an appointment with a genetic counsellor but my experience from my first pregnancy (at 39 and now I'm 41) was that they will be pushing for the amnio which has a 1 in 200 risk of miscarriage. A risk which I don't want to take if it's not necessary.

Hi Carmen,
Congratulations and thanks for your comments on the site. I remember those first few days after finding out we were having twins - that "is this really me?" feeling. And all the questions. I hope everything goes well for you in the coming weeks. Take care of yourself!

Thank you.... I was 38 when we had our daughter, and have just found out that we are expecting twins at 41. I really appreciated finding your site and your no nonsense plain language approach. It's Memorial Day weekend in the USA and we found out this Friday... I'd rather not bother my OBGYN with my multitude of questions over the holiday... ( I plan on calling on Tuesday to get a quickie appointment just to make sure I'm doing everything right for the babies and myself....)
